I just got home all smiley from the Mongoose Am Jam that just happened during the second stop of the USA BMX Freestyle series. The event took place at the YMCA Krause Family Skate & Bike Park in San Diego, CA, and we couldn’t have asked for a better one!
While the Freestyle contest happened on the BMX bike park side, we held the jam on the Skate course, so the competitors would have plenty of time to practice. They call it a skate course, but you would never know with how well the bikes took to it! All the riders utilized the rail setups, the quarters and hips that the course had to offer.
This Jam was a special one because four of the Mongoose pro team live close by and showed up to hang out, ride with the kids, and give out prizes! What Pros? Well, glad I asked… Kevin Peraza and Mykel Larrin are SD locals, and Ben Wallace and Pat Casey made the drive from nearby Riverside. They all rode around with the younger groups getting them stoked while letting the older group do their thing and throwdown some amazing moves!
The vibe was loose and the stoke was high. A big thanks to the crew from Genuine BMX for letting us use their PA and for Saul hyping the crowd with his inflatable leprechaun costume! A highlight clip is coming out soon. See you all at the next stop in Tulsa, Oklahoma on April 21st!
