Team Mongoose Lands on the Podium at USA BMX Pro Opener in Rock Hill

Kevin Garczynski

Race season is back!  The 2025 USA BMX Pro Opener went off last weekend at the renowned Rock Hill BMX Supercross Track in Rock Hill, SC, and Team Mongoose showed out on their Titles race bikes in a big way!

Coming off a dream season in 2024, Mongoose pro Cam Wood picked up right where he left off.  Cam started off with a bang on Friday landing on top of the box against a stacked Men’s Elite class!  Cam followed up Friday’s win with another podium on Saturday finishing in 3rd, then he capped off his weekend with a second P1 on Sunday!

Australian pro Jordan Callum continued to impress on his Mongoose with some fast laps in the Men’s Elite Class, and landed on the podium on Sunday with a 2nd place finish in the UCI U23 race. Congrats, Jordan!

Last but certainly not least, Mongoose’s very own Mason Hayes showed why he’s one of the best young riders out there grabbing two 2nd place finishes, and he managed to make his first main in the UCI Junior Class!  Watching Mase progress since 2020 when he first started with the brand (from Title Expert to Title Pro XXXL!) has been a joy for everyone at Mongoose!

To top it off, before the gate dropped at the race track, all three riders stopped by Fort Mill Middle School earlier in the week on behalf of the USA BMX Foundation to talk to students about BMX, STEM and what it takes to be a pro athlete. And, of course, they made sure to put on a show on their BMX bikes for students and staff!

We’re all super proud of these young men for all that they do as ambassadors for the sport, and we caught up with Cam Wood to get his thoughts on his stay in Rock Hill!

After the long break, what was it like landing a couple wins to start the season?

CAM: This offseason was great! We had 4 months away from racing after winning my first Pro Title on Thanksgiving. Honestly, it was good for me, it allowed me to reset, focus on new goals and get myself back to where I needed to be mentally and physically for a long season. I also got engaged during the break and I am still riding on a high from that! There was just good, positive energy heading into the weekend and it feels great to start off in good form and head home from Rock Hill with some wins under my belt.

What is it about Rock Hill that got you into a comfort zone so quickly?

CAM:  I love it in Rock Hill. I lived there for 3-4 months last year leading up to the Olympic qualifying events so it honestly feels like a second home to me. It has been a staple on the USA BMX circuit for my entire career as a pro so it's all just really familiar.

Talk a bit about your visit to the elementary school with Mase and Jordan?

CAM:  We (Mason, Jordan and I) have done school visits every year for the past few years in Rock Hill and it never gets old. We always look forward to visiting Fort Mill Middle School, the kids are so engaged and so excited when we come in and share our experiences and passion for BMX. And even more excited when we jump over the School officer :) I never take for granted the opportunity we have to give back and share our love for a sport that has given us all so much. And I hope we leave a lasting impact and introduce kids to the freedom of two wheels. You never know how far it can take you.

What's next for you this April?

CAM: We have another USA BMX Race in California coming up in a few weeks, so I will be preparing for that and try to keep this train on the tracks for a second title run. Overall, just continuing to wake up and be the best I can be as a person as an athlete! I am blessed to do what I love to do every day and have the support from Mongoose/USA BMX Foundation and the entire team around me. A race year is a marathon, so just continuing to be present and make the most of every opportunity I get!
