Quarantine Time with Team Mongoose: Kevin Peraza

Adam Wogksch

In a typical year, Mongoose pro Kevin Peraza would have already circled the globe to ride the biggest comps BMX has to offer by the time the spring months hit. But obviously, 2020 is anything but typical. We caught up with Kevin to see how he's dealing with quarantine life.

So, what have you been doing with yourself to keep busy at home?

Kevin: Where do I start? Ha-ha being indoor is crazy hard for me, especially after recently moving to San Diego and with all the energy I have. All I want to do is be outside and riding cool parks and spots. But it hasn’t been too bad. I have been staying busy with multiple things.

I recently got a new lens and some more camera gear to play with and trying to create fun content to post or use for myself. Learning how to cook and make different dishes with my wife. Some days we stay up until 3 or 4am building puzzles or painting, and the basics, like watching movies and documentaries online. Other days I wake up super early and stretch, read or play the Xbox. It depends on the mood honestly.

I have also been going down to my parking garage to session some flat(land) for a bit. Since all the parks are closed and we technically can’t be outdoors then that’s all I got for now. But been having some good fun in there.

We are slowly getting things and adding more furniture to our place, so it feels like new every week. I have also become addicted to cleaning, its therapeutic hahahaha.

What do you miss most about BMX right now?

Kevin: I miss many things; traveling, riding good contest set ups or good bowls and park everywhere, riding different spots in different cities. But mainly just miss my BMX family and riding friends. The energy and the vibes with them all, miss being motivated to ride every day. It’s strange for us all, but we are all in the same situation at the moment so I can’t complain, and I know things will slowly fall into its place again.

What are you looking forward to most when everything returns back to normal?

Kevin: Just getting to go out to good coffee shops, session different parks, go to the beach. Do things outside. Ha-ha the weather in SD is perfect year-round so all I want to do is be outside.

Tell us about that photo you posted with a bunch of Kevin’s in one room, ha-ha. What did you shoot that on?

Kevin: Hahaha it’s what 90% of what people’s lives are like these days ha-ha but just finding different ways to create what I have been up to. I have fun creating different content to post on social and that one was super fun to make, I laughed and smiled a lot while trying to figure out the spacing between one Kevin and another, lol.

Any advice for people trying to find something to do to pass the time?

Kevin: Get creative and do things you truly enjoy. Paint, shoot photos, do homework outs and stretches, eat healthier. This is the time to do the things you always talk about and say you will do tomorrow and never do them. Ha-ha get them done. Call your family and friends and just chat. It’s a good feeling knowing everyone you love and care for is doing good. Mentally makes you happier and takes away all the stress and problems.

Appreciate the little things and remember we are all in this together. Feel free to write me on my social if you need any advice or simply have some questions.

I truly Hope everyone is doing good and hope to see you all or have your support at the events for when things get back to normal. Remember that sometimes our problems aren’t always real problems, and everything has a solution. With time, things will all fall back into its place, and I hope we all learn how much we were not living in the moment and truly appreciate the little things. Stay safe and much love. -KP

With all this time on everyone’s hands, you might as well watch Kevin’s Heritage video again!
